Too many people think that acupuncture only treats pain conditions, and that is the biggest misconception. It is true that we treat many pain conditions, such as arthritis, sciatic pain, back and neck pain, carpal tunnel syndrome, headaches, and many other pain conditions. However, Chinese Medicine treats a wide range of internal and neurological conditions. By neurological conditions, I mean headaches, stroke, Bells Palsy, neuralgia, shingles, trigeminal neuralgia, and many more. There are many internal conditions that are successfully treated with acupuncture and herbs, such as gynecological, gastrointestinal, respiratory, and circulatory problems, and immune and psychological disorders. Chinese Medicine also treats problems such as weight control, skin disorders, as well as addiction problems.
There are many acupuncturists that treat everything in their practice, but there are also some that tend to specialize in certain disorders. For instance, there are many veterinary acupuncturists who use Chinese Medicine to dogs, cats, and race-horses. Some doctors only treat children and specialize in children’s diseases. Others concentrate on women’s health issues. Yet others only treat neurological problems or focus on sports medicine. Some only specialize in beauty treatments. It all depends on the practitioner. In the future articles I will be covering many different disease and how to best approach them with Chinese Medicine.
